Chairman's Message

Hello to all members. I hope you are all keeping safe and well during these strange and difficult times. Our Club is managing to survive financially, mainly due to the hard work many of us have put in over the last five years, trimming all expenditures and managing our existing funds during a period when no income is being generated.

Our Treasurer Mr Wyn Morgan has done and continues to do an excellent job in ensuring that we stay afloat during this unprecedented time. We as a club are especially grateful to our Welsh Government for a generous cash injection which we received to assist small businesses like ours. We have discussed in all our board meetings whether it would be advisable for us to open our Clubhouse but after working out our overheads it would not be cost effective to open under the existing restrictions.

I am pleased to inform you that our Senior, Youth and Juniors have returned to training with all the necessary safety measures in place. I as well as my fellow board members am eternally grateful to all the Coaches, volunteers and parents who have made this possible and who ensure that every player adheres to the safety measures we have in place, including abiding with the social distancing regulations.

As a Club we have been very fortunate and are extremely grateful to Dafydd Pugh Jones, who has very kindly volunteered to become our Club Operations Manager. He plays a pivotal role, advising us in all areas of club on and off the field. Health and Safety is Dafydd’s area of expertise and we are extremely lucky to have him on board.

We are working very closely with the W.R.U. but sadly we cannot confirm any dates for a return to playing rugby as a contact sport. It does not lend itself to social distancing so all we can do now is prepare for that announcement and keep safe.

Yours in sport

Tim Lewis

Chairman of Aberystwyth RFC
