Under 14s Triumph

Aberystwyth RFC U14's travelled to Dogellau on Sunday 21st October for a double header against Dolgellau and Bro Ffestiniog. Taking on Bro Ffestiniog first, Aberystwyth made an immediate error knocking on from the kick off, however the pack recovered the ball at the resulting scrum winning against the head, indeed the front row of Ifan Blake, Adam Bradley and Huw Griffiths dominated this facet of play in both matches. From the scum there was strong running by both backs and forwards before Guto James was put into space to score unopposed for the first of his hat trick of tries in the first half.  Score at half time being a comfortable 29-0 with further tries from Osian Bebb-Worrall and Mason Lees and two conversions by Tomos Jones.  In the second half there were a couple of long range tries scored by the backs who benefited from strong running on a number of occasions from second row Troy Morris who fielded a number of the Bro Ffestiniog restarts. The pick of the second half tries starting deep in the Aberystwyth 22 with the backs bringing the ball out of defence and after receiving the ball and making ground Will Beckham broke a tackle and passed to Efan Davies, who had moved to the wing and ran the remainder of the pitch to score almost under the posts. There were also tries for Leo Davies, Tom Jones and a try on debut for Steffan Watkin.  Final score 51-0.

The second match started well for Aberystwyth with a try from the kickoff but  Dolgellau then scored 22 unanswered points with a hattrick for the Dolgellau right wing. Despite losing 22-5 Aber's heads did not go down and as light rain began to fall the bigger Aber pack started to hit the rucks and make inroads with excellent work at the ruck by Ruben Meaney and Aled Morris winning turnovers allowing scrum half Owen Pugh to feed the big Aber runners which resulted in a brace of tries for Leo Davies and a further try for Steffan Watkin. On the last play of the match Aber made their way up the pitch with the whole team involved and Mason Lees crossing the line for the winning try - final score 25-22 to Aberystwyth
