Hard work for the Youth Team

Aberystwyth Youth 0  -  38 Fishguard Youth.

In their first game of the new season a below-strength Aber Youth XV suffered a heavy defeat to a more mature and experienced Fishguard Youth team. Many of Aber’s team were playing their first game at this level and, given that this is a huge step at that age, they acquitted themselves very satisfactorily.

Fishguard were 17 – 0 to the good by half time thanks to three well-taken tries and a single conversion. Three more converted tries followed in the second half. They dominated territory and possession and it was a credit to Aber’s defence that they restricted the visitors to this scoreline.

On the evidence of this performance it will take a very good team to beat the visitors. Their cohesion and understanding of each other was plain to see and coach Wayne Thomas will make sure that Aber’s young squad will learn from defeats such as this. He and his coaching team have been here before and have patiently nurtured past Youth sides into formidable teams. The message to those who played for Aber on Saturday is to be patient, to learn from every game and to take on board all the guidance and help available from their coaches.
