Youth Team Show Lots of Commitment

Aberystwyth Youth 0 –v- 50 Crymych Youth.

Aberystwyth’s Youth XV suffered a loss on Saturday to a Crymych side that were bigger and more experienced than the young home side. But although this will go down as another defeat for the Aber boys, the result disguises the effort and commitment they made.

It was apparent that they are improving steadily despite being outclassed by older and more mature opponents. They were 0 – 19 down by half time as Crymych scored three first half tries, two of which were converted. Another five tries and three conversions were added in the second half – two of these tries were the result of charged down kicks as Aber tried to break out of defence.

Crymych relied on a good understanding and teamwork for their success, whereas Aber relied on good individual efforts. They will learn a lot over the remainder of the season and will emerge as a more cohesive and formidable squad as the season progresses.

Centre Alex Spollen, scrum-half Owen Pugh and full-back Euros Lloyd were the pick of the brave Aber side but the whole team remained focused until the final whistle, tackling bravely and attacking with determination. Their commitment will earn them better performances and victories in due course and their coach Wayne Thomas and his team, will make sure that they iron out weaknesses from defeats like this.

On Wednesday night, 22nd Sept. Aber Athletic will take on Aberaeron at Plascrug. Kick-off 7.15.
