U12 at RGC South Festival

Aberystwyth Under U12’s

RGC South festival Sunday 19 February 2017

With conditions poor and small squad depleted though injury, illness and half term hols, hats off to the ten boys who braved the rain and the mud to travel up to Dolgellau, to represent the club in the RGC South 10 a-side festival and they should be very proud of themselves as it was an outstanding performance.

After the tough experience in Builth a few weeks ago, they showed a lot of heart and determination in playing 5 games conceding only 2 tries but scoring 10.

Unfortunately, they lost to Bala 10-5 in the first game; Aber went behind as is per normal but slowly got themselves back into the game which allowed centre Will Beckham to cross to level the scores. Aber pressed for the winner but a turnover in mid-field allowed Bala’s winning try to come in the last play of the game.

This last minute defeat could have seen the boys heads go down and say “’here we go again”. However, they rallied and went on a fine run beating the hosts 10-0 with tries from Osain Bebb-Worrall and Beckham who was stating to dominate the midfield with his power.

They then played Welshpool and ran out comfortable winners 20-0. This game belonged to wing Shane Griffiths who showed pace and strength to score a fine hat-trick in the 10 minutes games.

Newtown were a very physical side but the boys fought fire with fire with scrum half Owen Pugh leading from the front in both attack and defence. Reuben Meaney planning at outside half was to cross over after a fine individual break and with no 8 Bebb-Worrall playing out of position at hooker scoring from his own 22 Aber ran out 10-0.

The final game was against Bro Ffestiniog who came with a large squad and were unbeaten. They were understandably very confident and threw everything they could at Aber’s line but were unable to cross largely down to the props Ifan Blake and Josh Pugh Jones who tackled bravely along with the tireless Ellis Owen Jenkins and pacey full back Guto James. Aber were able to break away & for No 8 Troy Morris to score from a five yard scrum to run out 5-0 winners.

The plan is that we train on Friday but keep an eye out as may cancel due to weather etc. Have a good half term everyone
