Aberystwyth Athletic welcomed Tenby Seasiders to Plascrug on a dry but very blustery day. The Athletic played into the wind but the early exchanges between both sides showed their intentions to play open running rugby. Tenby had a period of pressure in the Athletic half but from broken play, some excellent handling between Steffan Nutting, Robbie Parry & Llewellyn Evans saw centre Paul Stubbs race over for the first score. However, this spurred Tenby into life and through some ill discipline the Athletic found themselves on their own try line where only some resolute defence keep their opponents out. From the 22 metre restart procession was regained by Shane Evans who broke up field, and supported by scrum half Ben Davies the ball found its way to centre Jordan Thomas who raced over for a12 – 0 lead. The Athletic now enjoyed a period of possession particularly through their line out where second row Efion Hughes was dominant. It was near the Tenby line that a miss placed Athletic pass was kicked deep into the Aber 22 where full back Alex Spollen gathered the ball and raced near enough the length of the pitch only to be tackled a metre short. Some excellent support play by the Athletic
players saw the ball moved wide to winger Aled Phillips to cross in the corner giving a halftime score of 19 – 0. With rolling substitutes used throughout the game
destructive flanker Guto Bryn-Jones came to the fore with some characteristic strong tackling. And although the Athletic had the wind at their backs a quick tap penalty
saw the play reach the Tenby line where after several pick and goes by the forwards, prop Dylan Jones crash over. The Athletic were now dominant in all facets of the
game and through some strong running between forwards and backs, the Athletic were back on the Tenby line where Guto Bryn- Jones crossed for the Athletic's fifth
try of the game. From the restart a strong run by Harri Mason saw the ball moved along the backline where the ball reached the Tenby 22 metre line and winger Sion
Gorman crossed the line. With the game coming to a close, it was the relentless Paul Stubbs who made ground into the Tenby half, and after some good interplay
again between forwards and backs, the ball reached captain Llewellyn Evans who crossed for a deserved try, converted by outside half Craig Debell who rounded off
an excellent individual performance to give a score of 41 – 0 to the Athletic. Tenby are also to be commended for their performance as they played their part in an
entertaining game of rugby and it is credit to the Athletic that they were able to prevent their opponents crossing their own try line.
